Diamond Valley Miniature Train
The Diamond Valley Railway operates a ridable miniature railway system running on a network of rail track. It has been estimated that Diamond Valley Railway has carried more than 100,000
passengers a year.
Undoubtedly, Diamond Valley Railway is the most popular miniature train in Victoria.
It is located in Eltham Lower Park and the park provides a perfect bush land setting. The address is Eltham Lower Park, 570 Main Road, Eltham, Victoria.
The fare is AU$3.00 and it operates every Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. At that price, your kids could make a few trips round the circuit.
For more details, check their website here.
The Diamond Valley Railway is run by a group of volunteers and that is why it operates only Sunday.
The mainline is about 1.92 Km and the journey take about 9 minutes to complete. The mainline passes through two tunnels and goes over a number of bridges.
There are a variety of locomotives, which are powered by live steam, petrol and electricity. In total, the railway owns fourteen locomotives.
All the signalling system used here is based on Victorian Railways prototype and practices.
There is an annual Community 12 hour run. The next annual run is scheduled to be held on Sunday 12 March 2017 from 11:00am to 11:00pm.
All the proceeds from the day will be donated to charities and community groups.
Here’s a Youtube video to show the miniature trains in action.
The park has two adventure playgrounds and covered barbecue areas. With these combinations, it makes a perfect family outing for kids and adults for the whole day.
There are coffee trucks and pop-up hot dog store. So I wouldn’t worry about packing sandwiches.
